Celebrating the life of
Sally Player Johnson
July 07, 1938 - November 19, 2013
Savannah, GA- Sally Lane Player Johnson, born July 7, 1938 in Geneva, IL died at home in The Landings on Skidaway Island, GA on November 19, 2013.
She grew up in Warrenville, IL and graduated from Wheaton Central High School. She married Rodger Johnson—the love of her life and best friend for more than 55 years. They lived in Chicago, Cincinnati, and Detroit before settling in North Oaks, MN, outside St. Paul, where she raised her family and lived for 40 years. Sally was an adventurous woman, who traveled to all corners of the world with her husband, family and friends. She was proud to have instilled the desire to see the world in her children and grandchildren. She had a true gift for hospitality, and continually opened her home to family and friends. She worked as an X-Ray Technician early in life, after which she raised her family and worked as a travel agent. She was proud to return to college at St. Catherine's in St. Paul, earning a degree in one of her favorite topics: history. She was a longtime member of the North Oaks Book Club, an avid golfer and gourmet cook. She was generous with her time and energy for the many organizations she was involved with, including; Planned Parenthood, Children's Hospital Guild, Junior League of St. Paul and others. After retiring to The Landings, she remained very active, and was involved in golf, garden club, and book club. She continued her support of organizations she appreciated, such as the Telfair Museum, Savannah Philharmonic and Planned Parenthood. Sally had an infectious laugh and will be remembered for her humor and zaniness.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Helen Player, and her in-laws, LeRoy and Alice Johnson.
She is survived by her husband, Rodger; children, Pam Samuel Bob, Barry and Sara Patrick Hogan; grandchildren, Parker, Hunter and Mallory Samuel and Drew Hogan; sisters, Roberta Naden David and Lois Kendle Jim, and sister-in-law, Carolyn Bell Stephen.

Please accept my condolences. I was very sorry to read of Ms. Johnson's death. But please take comfort in the fact that sickness and death will soon be things of the past. The Bible promises that Jehovah God 'will swallow up death forever, and....will wipe away the tears from all faces.' Isaiah 2:8
- Mrs. Khan, , GA
I was so sorry to hear of your loss. Sally and I enjoyed much in common: world travel, golf, and friendship. She will be missed. Barbara

Rodger, Wayne and I were saddened to hear about Sally's passing away. We enjoyed knowing you both while we lived in North Oaks before we retired to Pinehurst. Gretchen Nelms told us the sad news.
- Shirley and Wayne Ray, Pinehurst, NY
How shocking, I can't believe she is gone, she was so vital and energetic. She will be greatly missed by so many. I treasured knowing her.
- Peggy and Leonard Lindborg, Savannah, GA
I am so sad to hear that Sally passed away. We had such fun working on Garden Club projects together, such as decorating the gates for Christmas and hospitality for meetings. She was such fun and so cheery!
- Shelby Schavoir, Savannah, GA
There are few people that I have met that I immediately liked but Sally was one of them. We had so much in common particularly when it came to travel. She was always so bubbly and full of life and I am so sorry I didn't have time to know her better. I will truly miss her so and I just cannot believe I will not be spending time with her ever again.
- Pat Dawson, Savannah, GA
Sally was a sweet and fun gal whom I enjoyed often at the bridge table and sharing books. My prayers are with her family and blessing for her in heaven.
